PI3K/mTOR inhibitor
A substance that blocks the activity of the proteins PI3K (phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase) and mTOR (Mammalian Target Of Rapamycin) which helps control cell growth and division. Some tumors have higher-than-normal levels of PI3K and/or mTOR. Blocking the actions of PI3K and mTOR may keep cancer cells from growing and prevent the growth of new blood vessels that cancer cells need to grow. Some PI3K/mTOR inhibitors are used to treat cancer.
